Sat with a friend tonight who is dealing with a lot of parental/other issues and, for 4 hours, just listened. Because sometimes that’s all that a person needs: an ear.

At my work, there is a sweet older latino man who takes care of maintaining the facilities. I see him often and though he doesn’t speak English well, I try to converse with him in my broken Spanish. He always says hello and smiles a smile so wide, that his eyes almost disappear. I asked him one day if he has grandchildren, because I really wanted to get him something that he could resonate with. He has a 3 yr old and 6 yr old grandson and granddaughter. Hopefully they enjoy the knick-knacks and smile card they are about to receive.

I called a friend that I’ve lost touch with to let them know that I wished them well.
