Comment on Sat with a friend tonight who is dealing with a lot of parental/other issues and, for 4 hours, just listened. Because sometimes that’s all that a person needs: an ear. by r

Comment on At my work, there is a sweet older latino man who takes care of maintaining the facilities. I see him often and though he doesn’t speak English well, I try to converse with him in my broken Spanish. He always says hello and smiles a smile so wide, that his eyes almost disappear. I asked him one day if he has grandchildren, because I really wanted to get him something that he could resonate with. He has a 3 yr old and 6 yr old grandson and granddaughter. Hopefully they enjoy the knick-knacks and smile card they are about to receive. by r

these guys spend so much time serving others as a job that i think they sometimes forget that its service, and the recipients forget to acknowledge their kindness. sometimes all its takes is learning their names to make a huge difference.

Comment on Emailed a 90 year old SF Chronicle science writer to express my gratitude at his exceptional years of communicating important science to the public. Also, to commend him for not taking a “buyout” from the newspaper when that option would have been the easy thing to do. by r

wow, what a unique piece of gratitude that must have been for him to receive. these guys often feel like they are fighting a lonely fight despite being smack in the public's attention, and my feeling is that your note must have had an impact.

someone once told me that if people stopped having these silent intentions, the world as we know it would unravel and fly apart. reminds me that love is this silent force that maintains and upholds everything. i'm grateful for all these invisible, silent intentions floating around that make the world go round!
